Player Update June 7th

Phoenix Players & Coaches,

As of today, we are one week out from the 32nd Phoenix Cup. There are several important items that we would like to communicate to you so you can be better informed as you venture to Ohio. Topics covered below include Pine Valley updates, meal information, clothing/attire, practice area information, daily transportation, Monday practice round tee assignments, and communication during tournament week.

For your convenience, we will post this information on the Latest News and Updates page on the Ohio Blind Golf site in the next day or two. Look for one last email at the end of this week for any last minute updates…

Pine Valley Update: The weather this spring has been Exceptionally cool and wet. As a result, construction of the new clubhouse was postponed until after the Phoenix Cup. . Lisa & Michael Reynolds, the course owners have a very large white tent with sides and windows that will accommodate everyone nicely. All our meetings and several meals will be held there during the week.

Meals: In respect to meals, we need to be prepared for any extra guests that may be traveling with you that would like to attend the meals. Your entry fee covers meals for all players & their essential guides/coaches. There will be a luncheon after the practice round on Monday, a trip to Blue Heron Brew Pub on Tuesday, a BBQ at Lisa & Michael Reynolds home on Wednesday, the Award Ceremony Banquet on Thursday at the Galaxy, and a meal following the Charity Scramble on Friday. The cost for each additional guest would be $100 for the week. Pleas reply to this email as soon as practical should you have extra guests. Also, if there are those with special dietary needs, please email americanblindgolf@gmail.com with your needs.

Clothing/Attire: Here is the review of clothing: On Tuesday, Team USA will wear red shirts with black bottoms. On Wednesday Team USA will wear navy shirts with gray bottoms. On Thursday, Team USA will wear white shirts with navy bottoms. On Friday, both Teams will wear the red shirts with the slight striping. Team Europe is aware of their shirt colors and will be planning accordingly. Both Teams will also be provided a logoed wind vest, a ¾ zip wind shirt, and a USA logoed golf hat for Team USA and a logoed European golf hat for Team Europe. Team USA hats are white with blue lettering across the front, American flag on the left, Phoenix Cup logo on the right, and the Huntington bank logo across the strap on the back. Team Europe hats are the blue color of the flag with gold stars on the front and similar Phoenix Cup logo and Huntington bank logos.

Practice Information: The weather once again has delayed the improvements on Pine Valley’s practice range. There will be approximately 8 outdoor matts available on site. However, they are not easily accessible. Alternatively, Norton Driving Range may be the preferred option. It is located about 1 mile east of the course. They are open from sunup to sundown. It is fully automated and costs $5 for a bucket of balls. Pine Valley does have a putting green by the clubhouse.

Transportation: There will be a daily shuttle available to and from the hotel to Pine Valley. As most all players/coaches have rented vehicles, the preferred option would be to drive to and from the course. Pine Valley is 2 miles from the hotel. My suggestion would be that players and coaches in need of daily transportation can seek out rides with another team member. Our hope is that any issues can be worked out at our initial meeting following the practice round on Monday June 15th.

Practice Round Tee Assignments: On Monday June 15th there will be a practice round available for all players. It will be a shotgun start at 8:45. Players will play in 3-somes, and captains from each team will inform you who you will be playing with and your tee assignment.

Lastly, for Team USA, Sarah Larson & Mark Arnold will text members during tournament week with any last minute vital information. The information will be passed along to the captains for Team Europe to notify their players.
